Event Description:
Join Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy for a guided hike at the SAHC Community Farm in Alexander, NC. This 2.0-mile loop along the Discovery Trail winds through sunlit fields and shaded forest edges, highlighting the vibrant beauty and conservation efforts of the 140-acre farm.

Along the hike, participants will learn about agroforestry and regenerative agriculture while exploring silvopasture demonstration areas, the Food Forest orchard, stream buffer projects, the youth-friendly Story Walk, and growing spaces for SAHC’s Farm Incubator Program. Wildlife sightings may include Scottish Highland cattle, white-tailed deer, and soaring hawks.

Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or curious about sustainable farming practices, this hike offers an inspiring look at how conservation and agriculture work together.

Important Notes:

  • The SAHC Community Farm is an active site and not open to the public outside scheduled events

  • Pre-registration is required to protect the site and ensure a positive experience

  • Event details, directions, and meeting instructions will be emailed a few days before the hike

  • Portions of the trail may not be disability accessible
