Event Description:
KILLER OF SHEEP (Charles Burnett, USA) is a poetic portrait of 1970s family life in Los Angeles’ Watts neighborhood and is considered one of the great American films. The Library of Congress added it to the National Film Registry in 1990, and the National Society of Film Critics listed it among the “100 Essential Films” in 2002.
This event features a new 4K restoration of the film. Two ASU English professors will introduce the screening:
Michael Docherty – On the L.A. Rebellion, the groundbreaking group of filmmakers.
John Sanders – On resistance in Killer of Sheep.
